But from here I’m totally stable.
I can move.
I can explode.
I can get into that place…. the Nara thing, right?
The whole idea of this is ‘heavy… heavy… heavy… heavy… heavy… right? And so if my hip’s a little tight, or my knee’s a little tight, instead of finding it, I just go ‘heavy….’
I let gravity inform my body and get out of the way, with any laugher or desires, and just go ‘ok, where do I feel any kind of tightness? That foot…’ Now watch.
Now watch where the power comes from.
Did I look ever like I was ever unbalanced? Because it’s an explosion of power, from that place I was showing you. And also you keep your place.
Look famiiar?
Look famiiar?
It’s Sensei’s thing, it’s what he does!
Well I’m thinking: ‘well how….? Okay. What’s the kernel of wisdom in this? Not just copying him… What the hell’s going on there that I can use?’
Because he wasn’t going to share it… Right… Okay…
But from there, when I move, I can absolutely just ‘heavy…heavy…heavy…heavy…’
Right.
I’m totally relaxed. And in order to move, when I fire up down here: everything stays heavy, as it’s moving…
It’s totally effortless, Peter…
I feel no effort in that motion at all.
So if I can share that part of ‘heavy…heavy…’
You can practise it in everything!

A generation later, probably, this version is put together for display in church: and quoting the locally well known standing stone – but with consistent word order changes…
niu havorumr / niu hangestumr / Hathuwolfr gaf ‘J’ /

If my nose feels tight I make it heavy…heavy…
That will allow you to…
Watch!
Look familiar?
That’s how he does it. That’s how he’s able to do those postures which look as goofy as f*** because if you don’t do this as well, it’s goofy. It’s almost like he’s saying, ‘I’ll give you a puzzle that you can’t do unless you have the secret thing… You can try and I can correct you five hundred times… You will never, actually, do what I’m doing. Because I’m not telling you what I’m doing.’
Being able to have a locus like ‘feel your elbow itself’, ‘by itself’, ‘all by itself, and make it heavy…’ And then, when I’m moving, any place that tightens…. right there, my scapula tightened… I just go ‘heavy…heavy…heavy…heavy…’
If you had a tape of him, I could exactly simulate it. It took a while for me to figure out what approach he was taking, to be able to do this really lead-with-the-face goofy s***. Because I would look at it and go, like, ‘on a budo level …my sword teacher… he would have killed you, because you’re basically saying “hit me”… But from here I’m totally stable.
I can move.
I can explode.
